Hyaluronidase is a naturally occurring enzyme in the body that breaks down hyaluronic acid. When injected into an area with HA filler, it dissolves the filler — typically within 24–48 hours. It is the standard medical treatment for removing or correcting unwanted filler results.

This is one of the key safety advantages of HA fillers over non-HA alternatives — the ability to fully reverse the treatment if needed. All the dermal filler brands Dr Azra uses (Belotero, Aliaxin, Teosyal) are HA-based and fully reversible.

Assessment

Dr Azra examines the area, checks what type of filler was used, and decides how much hyaluronidase is needed.

Injection

Small amounts of hyaluronidase are injected directly into the filler. The process takes 10–15 minutes depending on the area.

Dissolving

The enzyme starts working right away. Most filler breaks down within 24 hours. Full results are visible in 48 hours.

Review

A follow-up check confirms the filler has fully dissolved. If large volumes were treated, a second session may be needed.

Recovery after filler dissolving is straightforward. Some swelling, redness, or tenderness in the treated area is normal and usually settles within 24–48 hours. Bruising is possible but typically mild.

For the first 24 hours after treatment, avoid touching or pressing the area, heavy exercise, hot baths or saunas, and alcohol. These can increase swelling or interfere with the dissolving process.

The area may look slightly deflated or uneven in the first few days — this is expected as the filler breaks down and tissue settles. Final results are usually clear within one week.
