What a neck and jowl thread lift does

As the lower face ages, the crisp line between jaw and neck softens: the jawline blurs, small jowls form either side of the chin, and the neck below loses its snap. A thread lift addresses exactly this transition zone. Fine barbed (COG) threads are placed along planned vectors and used to lift and reposition the sagging tissue of the jawline and upper neck, so the jaw line is redrawn and the jowls are softened — without surgery, scars or general anaesthetic.

Because the threads are barbed, they physically lift rather than merely stimulate. You see a change on the day, and over the following weeks the collagen that forms around the threads maintains it. It is one of the most requested non-surgical treatments for the lower face precisely because that jaw-to-neck junction is where the eye reads age first.

At our clinic this is a physician-delivered treatment, planned and placed by Dr Azra Vaziri — the result depends entirely on the angle and depth of each thread.

What it treats — and what it doesn’t

A softening jawline

Jawline

Re-defining the jaw contour when the clean line has started to blur — the most common reason people ask about a neck thread lift.

Early jowls

Jowls

Lifting the small pockets of descent either side of the chin, before they deepen enough to need surgery.

Mild neck laxity

Neck

Early looseness under the chin and along the upper neck — often combined with the jawline for a balanced result.

Neck bands

Platysmal bands

Vertical neck bands respond better to Botox (a Nefertiti-style approach) than to threads — often the two are combined.

Heavy, hanging neck skin

Not for threads

Advanced laxity with a lot of excess skin is a surgical neck/face lift question — threads will underdeliver, and we will say so.

Loss of skin quality

Add-on

Crepey skin texture is better answered by smooth PDO threads or skin boosters alongside the lift.

Neck thread lift vs a surgical neck lift

Both are valid. The honest question is how much laxity you actually have — which is a physician assessment, not a website quiz.

Thread lift

Mild to moderate laxity

A lunchtime-scale procedure under local anaesthetic. Visible lift the same day, minimal downtime, results that last 18–24 months and can be repeated. Ideal for early jowls and a softening jawline in the late 30s to 50s.

Surgical neck / face lift

Advanced laxity, excess skin

Removes and re-drapes excess skin for a permanent, dramatic change — the right answer when there is simply too much loose tissue for threads to anchor. More downtime, higher cost, surgical risk. See our non-surgical facelift options for the full spectrum in between.

Your treatment, step by step

A thread lift is a minor procedure. The planning of the lift vectors matters as much as the placement.

1

Assessment

Dr Azra assesses your jawline, jowls and neck laxity and confirms whether threads — or Botox, filler or surgery — is the honest answer.

2

Planning & anaesthesia

Lift vectors are marked along the jaw and neck, and local anaesthetic keeps the procedure comfortable.

3

Thread placement

Barbed threads are placed through tiny entry points and drawn upward; the barbs anchor and the jawline is redrawn.

4

Review & aftercare

Symmetry is checked, aftercare explained and a review scheduled. You leave with a visible lift the same day.

Is a neck and jowl thread lift right for you?

Usually a good fit
  • A jawline that has started to soften or blur
  • Early jowls either side of the chin
  • Mild under-chin or upper-neck laxity with reasonable skin quality
  • You want a visible lift without surgery or downtime
  • Typically late 30s to 50s
Assess first / not for threads
  • Heavy, hanging neck skin or advanced jowling — a surgical conversation
  • Very thin or very lax skin with little to anchor to
  • Prominent vertical neck bands — often better with Botox
  • Active infection in the area, or a tendency to keloid scarring
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Recovery and results

You see a lift on the day. The first two weeks protect the anchoring while collagen forms around the threads.

Expect some swelling, mild bruising and a feeling of tightness along the jaw and neck for a few days — usually manageable enough to return to normal life quickly. For roughly two weeks, sleep on your back, avoid opening the mouth very wide, skip dental work, facials, saunas and vigorous exercise, and be gentle with the area so the barbs settle. The immediate lift softens slightly as swelling resolves, then the collagen effect maintains it for around 18–24 months. Many patients combine the lift with Botox for neck bands or filler for chin and jaw support — mapped out at your consultation.

Physician-placed, not delegated

A neck lift by threads is only as good as its vectors.

Every neck and jowl thread lift at our clinic is planned and placed by Dr Azra Vaziri, a DHA- and DOH-licensed aesthetic physician with more than twenty years of experience. The same threads placed at the wrong angle give a flat, short-lived or uneven result, and correcting an over-tightened or dimpled lift is far harder than planning it well the first time. That is why threads sit on our doctor menu, not the facialist one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a neck and jowl thread lift?

It is a non-surgical lift for the lower face and upper neck. Fine barbed (COG) threads are placed along the jawline and neck and used to reposition the sagging tissue, redrawing the jaw contour and softening early jowls, with an immediate lift plus gradual collagen stimulation.

Does a thread lift help a sagging jawline and jowls?

Yes, for mild to moderate sagging. Barbed threads lift and redefine a softening jawline and reduce early jowls. Heavy, advanced jowling with a lot of excess skin needs surgery instead, which is part of what an honest consultation determines.

How long does a neck thread lift last?

Around 18–24 months for most people with barbed threads. The threads absorb over months, but the collagen they stimulate keeps supporting the result after they are gone, and it can be repeated.

How much is a neck and jowl thread lift in Dubai?

Barbed lifts of the jawline, jowls and neck start from AED 4,000 (standard AED 6,000) and typically range AED 4,000–10,000 depending on how many threads and areas are treated. A barbed-plus-PDO combination is around AED 10,000–15,000. Your exact plan is confirmed at consultation.

Can a thread lift treat neck bands?

The vertical bands you see when you tense your neck (platysmal bands) usually respond better to Botox — a Nefertiti-style neck lift — than to threads. The two are often combined: threads for the jawline and jowls, Botox for the bands.

Is there much downtime?

Minimal compared with surgery. Expect some swelling, mild bruising and tightness along the jaw and neck for a few days. For about two weeks, sleep on your back, avoid opening the mouth wide, and skip dental work, facials, saunas and vigorous exercise so the threads settle.

Thread lift or a surgical neck lift — which do I need?

Threads suit mild to moderate laxity and give a subtle, temporary lift with little downtime. A surgical neck lift removes excess skin for a permanent, dramatic change and is the right answer for advanced laxity. The assessment is which category your neck is in, honestly.

Who performs the treatment?

It is planned and placed by Dr Azra Vaziri, a DHA- and DOH-licensed aesthetic physician with more than twenty years of experience. The result depends entirely on precise placement, so it is physician-delivered, not delegated to a therapist.
