Skin Booster — Before & After Care

A skin booster is an injectable treatment that delivers hyaluronic acid and amino acids into the skin to hydrate, smooth and firm from within — and the right aftercare is what protects that investment and lets the results settle beautifully. This guide from Dr Azra Vaziri walks you through exactly what to do before and after your appointment at our Dubai clinic.
— Before Your Treatment

How to Prepare (Before Care)

A little preparation reduces the chance of bruising and helps your session go smoothly. Whether you are having a classic HA booster or Profhilo, the guidance below applies. If anything is unclear, message us before your visit or review the treatment options and pricing first.
✓ Do
  • Arrive with clean, bare skin — remove make-up, SPF and skincare before your appointment.
  • Tell Dr Azra about all medications and supplements, including any recent illness or dental work.
  • Stay well hydrated in the days before — skin booster results build on a healthy, well-watered dermis.
  • Eat a light meal beforehand so you feel comfortable during the injections.
  • Plan your session for a day when you can keep the skin calm and skip the gym afterwards.
✗ Avoid before
  • Blood thinners for 24 hours where medically safe — aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo.
  • Alcohol for 24 hours, as it dilates vessels and increases bruising and swelling.
  • Booking over an important event — allow a few days in case of tiny bumps or redness.
  • Active skin flare-ups, cold sores or infection at the treatment area on the day.
  • Sunburn or very recent strong exfoliation, peels or laser on the same skin.

After Your Treatment — Day by Day

24h

First 24 hours

Expect tiny raised bumps or papules at each injection point — this is completely normal, especially with Profhilo, and they usually flatten within a few hours to about two days. Mild redness, slight swelling or pinprick marks may appear. Leave the skin alone: no make-up for 12–24 hours, and avoid touching or massaging the area.

1–7

Days 1 to 7

Any bumps and redness settle and the product begins to integrate into the skin. Keep to gentle, hydrating skincare and apply a daily SPF. Avoid strenuous exercise, sauna, steam rooms and very hot showers for the first 24–48 hours, then ease back to your normal routine.

2–4

Weeks 2 to 4

This is when the magic happens — hydration, glow, smoothness and firmness build gradually as the hyaluronic acid stimulates your skin. Hold off on facials, peels and laser for roughly 1–2 weeks. Most people see their full result develop over 3–4 weeks.

6+

Week 6 and beyond

Skin boosters work best as a short course — often 2–3 sessions spaced a few weeks apart — for a cumulative, longer-lasting result. Dr Azra will confirm your ideal schedule and any top-up plan at review. Pair with good hydration and SPF to protect your glow.

— Do & Don’t

Aftercare Do’s & Don’ts

✓ Do
  • Leave the bumps completely alone — they settle on their own within hours to about two days.
  • Keep skin clean and bare for the first 12–24 hours, then return to make-up gently.
  • Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser and moisturiser to support the treatment.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF every day — essential in the Dubai sun.
  • Drink plenty of water to help the hyaluronic acid work.
  • Contact the clinic on WhatsApp if you have any questions about how your skin is settling.
✗ Avoid after
  • Touching, rubbing or massaging the injection points — let them settle undisturbed.
  • Make-up for the first 12–24 hours.
  • Strenuous exercise, sauna, steam rooms and hot showers for 24–48 hours.
  • Facials, chemical peels, microneedling and laser for about 1–2 weeks.
  • Alcohol and blood thinners for the first 24 hours to limit bruising.
  • Direct sun and tanning beds while the skin is settling.
When to contact the clinic. Tiny bumps, mild redness, slight swelling and small bruises after a skin booster are entirely normal and settle on their own — there is no need to worry. However, do get in touch promptly if you notice increasing pain, spreading redness or heat, significant swelling, a fever, blistering, or any skin that looks pale, grey or unusually blanched, as these can rarely signal infection or a vascular issue that we want to review straight away. When in doubt, send us a photo — Dr Azra would always rather hear from you early. WhatsApp +971 50 180 1793.

Skin Booster Aftercare FAQ

Yes — small raised bumps or papules at each injection point are a normal, expected part of an injectable skin booster and are especially typical with Profhilo. They are simply the product sitting just under the skin and usually flatten within a few hours to around two days. The best thing you can do is leave them completely alone — no pressing or massaging.

Downtime is minimal. Any bumps, mild redness or slight swelling generally settle within hours to about two days, and most people carry on with their day right away. We simply ask you to skip make-up for 12–24 hours and avoid the gym, sauna, steam and hot showers for 24–48 hours so the skin stays calm while it settles.

You can cleanse gently with a mild product from the next day, but hold off on make-up for the first 12–24 hours. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and very hot showers for 24–48 hours, as heat and increased blood flow can worsen swelling. After that you can return to your normal routine, keeping facials, peels and laser on pause for about 1–2 weeks.

Skin boosters work gradually rather than instantly — hydration, glow and firmness build over roughly 3–4 weeks as the hyaluronic acid stimulates your skin. For the best, longest-lasting result they are usually done as a short course of 2–3 sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Dr Azra will confirm the right plan for your skin, and you can see the full range on the skin booster page.

Both hydrate and revitalise the skin, but they use different formulations and techniques. A skin booster delivers concentrated hyaluronic acid and amino acids for deep, lasting hydration and firmness, while mesotherapy uses a tailored cocktail of vitamins and nutrients. Dr Azra can advise which suits your goals at a consultation, and you can compare options on the full price list.
