Comparison Guide · Radiesse · HA Filler

Radiesse vs Hyaluronic Acid Filler in Dubai: Which Belongs Where?

The short answer: they are not rivals for the same job. Radiesse is calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) — firm, structural, collagen-building and impossible to dissolve. Hyaluronic acid (HA) filler is a gel that can be made soft or firm and can be dissolved within days. Radiesse belongs over bone, where structure is the goal.

HA belongs in the lips, under the eyes and anywhere being able to undo the result matters. Dr Azra Vaziri uses both, often in the same face.

Radiesse or HA filler — which one? Decide by the area, not by the brand. Lips, under-eyes and the nose take HA, because those are the places where a result may need to be dissolved. Hands and a hyper-diluted neck take Radiesse. The jawline, chin and cheeks can take either: Radiesse when the face needs real structure and a longer result, HA when it needs softer shaping or the reassurance of reversibility. At this clinic Radiesse is AED 2,700 per syringe; HA filler runs from AED 600 to AED 1,600 per syringe, depending on the product.

⎯ Area by Area

Which Area Takes Which Product

This is the question patients actually come in with. The table is how the decision usually falls; your own anatomy can move it.

Which Area Takes Which Product
AreaUsual choiceWhy
LipsHA fillerSoft, mobile tissue; Radiesse forms lumps here and is not used
Under-eyes (tear trough)Soft HA, or nothingThin skin shows any firm product; reversibility matters
NoseHA fillerVessels here are unforgiving; the product must be dissolvable
Between the browsBotox first; HA only with careA high-risk vascular area; never a non-dissolvable product
CheeksEitherRadiesse for lift and structure; HA for softer, more adjustable volume
Jawline and chinEither, often RadiesseRadiesse holds a contour on bone and lasts longer; HA if you want the option to reverse
TemplesEitherPlaced deep on bone; chosen on skin thickness
Nasolabial foldsEitherUsually treated better by lifting the cheek than by filling the fold

⎯ The Real Difference

Why Reversibility Decides So Much

HA filler can be dissolved. An injection of hyaluronidase breaks the gel down within a day or two — whether the problem is a shape you dislike, a lump, or, rarely, filler pressing on a blood vessel. That safety margin is why HA is the product for the lips, the under-eyes and the nose.

Radiesse cannot be dissolved. It is cleared by the body over 12–18 months while your own collagen replaces it. That is exactly what makes it valuable over bone in the jaw, chin and cheeks, and exactly why it is kept out of thin skin and high-risk zones. Placed deep and conservatively, it is a very safe product; placed in the wrong layer, it has to be waited out.

Choose Radiesse when…

The face needs structure — a jawline that has blurred, a chin that needs projection, cheeks that have flattened. Or the hands are the concern. Or you want the result to keep improving as collagen builds, and to last 12–18 months.

Choose HA filler when…

The area is the lips, the under-eyes or the nose. Or this is your first filler and you want to know it can be undone. Or the goal is fine shaping rather than structural support.

Have both when…

The lower face needs structure and the lips or under-eyes need softness. That is common, and it is not a compromise — each product goes where it works best.

⎯ Safety

Safety, Who Should Wait, and the Warning Signs

The risks are the same kind for both. Swelling, tenderness and bruising for a few days are normal. Less often there are lumps, asymmetry or a delayed inflammatory reaction. Rarely, with either product, filler blocks or presses on a blood vessel (vascular occlusion). With HA, hyaluronidase is the direct treatment and is kept in the clinic for that reason. With Radiesse there is no enzyme to dissolve it, which is why it goes only into deep planes and is kept out of the nose, the area between the brows and the under-eyes.

Who should wait or not have either. Treatment is postponed in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and during any active skin infection, cold sore or acne flare in the area. An autoimmune condition, a bleeding disorder or blood-thinning medication needs to be discussed first. If you have had permanent filler in the same area before, say so; it changes what can safely be placed on top of it.

Warning signs — contact the clinic the same day: pain that is severe or getting worse rather than better; skin that turns pale, white, grey, dusky or blotchy over or near the treated area; any change in your vision. These are rare, but they are time-critical, and they apply to both products.

⎯ How Long Each Lasts

How Long Radiesse and HA Filler Last

Radiesse lasts 12–18 months. The gel carrier is absorbed over the first months; the collagen it stimulated is what holds the result after that. That is why a Radiesse result often looks better at three months than at three days.

HA filler lasts 6–18 months, depending on the product and the area. Soft gels in the moving lips are broken down fastest, usually within 6–12 months. Dense gels placed deep on the cheekbone or the jaw can last 12–18 months. More detail on how long fillers last.

Neither number is a promise. Metabolism, exercise, age, skin quality and how much product was placed all move it.

Recovery: What the First Days and Months Look Like

Recovery is similar in the first week. What differs is what happens to the result afterwards.

Can Radiesse and HA Filler Be Combined?

Yes, and often — in different areas. A typical plan is Radiesse along the jawline or cheekbones and HA in the lips or under the eyes, in the same appointment.

They are not layered into the same spot on the same day. If both products sit in one area and something needs correcting, there is no way to know which one caused it, and only one of them can be dissolved.

Other treatments do jobs neither filler does — Botox for lines caused by movement, Profhilo for skin quality and hydration. If you are weighing Radiesse against another collagen stimulator rather than a filler, see Radiesse vs Sculptra or HArmonyCa vs Radiesse; for the category as a whole, biostimulators vs dermal fillers.

When Neither Is the Right Choice

A filler of either kind answers a volume or structure problem. These three are not.

Dull, crepey or dehydrated skin

That is a skin-quality problem. Profhilo or skin boosters do that job.

Lines that appear when you move

Frown lines and crow’s feet come from muscle. Botox treats the cause; filler only hides the crease.

Advanced sagging

Past a point, no injectable can hold the weight of the tissue. A thread lift or surgery is the honest recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Radiesse and HA filler?

What they are made of, and what that allows. Radiesse is calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel; it lifts on the day, then stimulates your own collagen, and it cannot be dissolved. HA filler is a hyaluronic acid gel; it adds volume and shape without building much collagen, and it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Is Radiesse better than HA filler?

Neither is better in general. Radiesse is better for structure over bone — jawline, chin, cheeks — and for the hands. HA filler is better for the lips, under-eyes and nose, and for anyone who wants a result that can be undone. Many faces are best treated with both, in different areas.

Which lasts longer, Radiesse or HA filler?

Radiesse usually lasts 12–18 months. HA filler lasts about 6–12 months in the lips and up to 12–18 months for dense products placed deep in the cheeks or jaw. See how long fillers last.

Can Radiesse be used in the lips or under the eyes?

No. In the lips it can form lumps, and under the eyes the skin is too thin for a firm product. Both areas are treated with a soft HA filler — see lip filler and under-eye filler.

Can Radiesse be dissolved like HA filler?

No. Hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid only; it has no effect on calcium hydroxylapatite. Radiesse is cleared by the body over 12–18 months. That is why it is placed deep, conservatively, and only in areas where it belongs.

Which is better for the jawline, Radiesse or HA filler?

Both are used for the jawline. Radiesse is firmer, holds a contour on bone well and lasts longer, so it is often the first choice for definition. A firm HA filler is a good option if you want to be able to adjust or reverse the result. See jawline filler.

Is Radiesse more expensive than HA filler?

Per syringe, yes — AED 2,700 for Radiesse against AED 600 to AED 1,600 for HA filler at this clinic. Because Radiesse often lasts longer in the same area, the cost per month can be closer than the syringe price suggests. See Radiesse price and filler price.

Can I have Radiesse and HA filler in the same session?

Yes, in different areas — for example Radiesse along the jawline and HA in the lips. They are not placed into the same area on the same day.

I have never had filler. Which should I start with?

Usually HA filler, because it can be dissolved if you do not like the result. If your concern is structural — a jawline or cheeks that have lost support — Radiesse can still be the right first treatment, started conservatively. It is decided at consultation.

Will Radiesse show up on an X-ray or scan?

Yes. Calcium hydroxylapatite is visible on X-ray and CT. It does not hide what the radiologist needs to see, but tell them you have had Radiesse so they read it correctly. HA filler does not show on X-ray.

Who should not have Radiesse or HA filler?

Treatment is postponed in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, and during an active skin infection or cold sore in the area. An autoimmune condition, a bleeding disorder, blood-thinning medication or previous permanent filler in the same area is discussed at consultation before anything is injected.

What are the warning signs after filler?

Severe or worsening pain, skin that turns pale, white, dusky or blotchy near the treated area, or any change in vision. They are rare, but contact the clinic the same day if you notice any of them — after Radiesse or HA filler alike. Normal swelling, tenderness and small bruises settle within days. See Radiesse aftercare and filler aftercare.

Which one would Dr Azra choose for me?

That depends on the area, your skin thickness and what you have had before, and it is decided face to face. Book a consultation with Dr Azra Vaziri in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
