RF Microneedling — Before & After Care

How to prepare for and recover from RF microneedling with Dr Azra Vaziri in Dubai. Below you’ll find exactly what to do before your session, a day-by-day recovery timeline, and clear guidance on when redness, warmth or a sandpaper texture is completely normal.

— Before Your Treatment

How to Prepare (Before Care)

✓ Do — the days before
  • Arrive with clean, bare skin — no make-up, SPF or serums on the day
  • Stay well hydrated and keep skin moisturised in the run-up to your session
  • Tell Dr Azra if you are prone to cold sores so a preventive antiviral can be arranged
  • Share your full skincare routine, medications and any recent treatments so we can tailor the settings
  • Book at least a week clear of holidays, weddings or events where redness would be inconvenient
✗ Avoid before
  • Retinoids, AHAs and other strong actives — stop 3–5 days before treatment
  • Any active skin infection or cold sore breakout in the treatment area
  • Recent sunburn or a fresh tan — skin must be calm and its normal colour
  • Sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tanner in the week beforehand
  • Waxing, threading or harsh exfoliation on the area a few days prior

After Your Treatment — Day by Day

24h

First 24 hours

Your skin will feel warm, look flushed and pink (like mild sunburn) and may feel tight. This is the normal response to radiofrequency heat. Leave the skin bare — no make-up for the first 24 hours — and cool it with a clean, damp compress if it feels hot. Use only a gentle, fragrance-free hydrator.

1–3

Days 1–3

Redness settles and a fine sandpaper or gritty texture develops as micro-channels heal — this is expected and shows the skin is renewing. Keep to gentle hydrators and mineral SPF only. Do not pick, scratch or exfoliate. Avoid sun, heat, sauna, steam and strenuous exercise for the first 48–72 hours.

3–5

Days 3–5

The rough texture flakes away to reveal fresher, smoother skin. You can usually reintroduce make-up once the surface is intact. Continue avoiding retinol, AHA, BHA and high-strength vitamin C until day 5, then reintroduce actives slowly.

2–6

Weeks 2–6

Collagen and elastin remodelling continues beneath the surface, so results build gradually — pores look refined, tone is more even and skin feels firmer. A course of around 3 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, gives the best cumulative skin texture improvement and tightening.

— Do & Don’t

Aftercare Do’s & Don’ts

✓ Do
  • Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser
  • Use a simple hydrating serum or moisturiser to support the skin barrier
  • Apply mineral (zinc/titanium) SPF 50 every morning and reapply outdoors
  • Let any flaking shed on its own — keep skin well moisturised
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase and keep hands off your face
  • Drink plenty of water to help skin recover in the Dubai climate
✗ Don’t
  • No make-up for the first 24 hours
  • No retinol, AHA, BHA or high-strength vitamin C for 3–5 days
  • No sun, sauna, steam room, hot showers or hot yoga for 48–72 hours
  • No strenuous exercise or heavy sweating for 48–72 hours
  • Do not pick, scratch, rub or exfoliate the treated skin
  • No harsh scrubs, chemical peels or Dermapen microneedling until the skin has fully recovered

When to contact the clinic. Redness, warmth, tightness and a sandpaper texture for 24–72 hours are all normal and expected after RF microneedling. Contact Dr Azra promptly, however, if you notice severe or increasing pain, spreading redness, swelling, warmth or pus, blistering, a cold-sore outbreak, or a fever — these can signal infection and are easily managed when caught early. — Common Questions

RF Microneedling Aftercare FAQ

Redness and warmth usually peak on the day of treatment and fade over the next 24–72 hours, often looking like mild sunburn at first. A fine, sandpaper-like texture may follow for a couple of days as the skin renews — this is a normal part of healing, not a complication.

Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy sweating, sun, sauna, steam rooms and hot showers for the first 48–72 hours, as heat can aggravate freshly treated skin. In Dubai’s strong sun, keep to shade and mineral SPF 50 for at least a week and reapply regularly.

Skip make-up for the first 24 hours and let the micro-channels close. You can cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser the same evening, using only a soft hydrator and mineral SPF. Once the surface feels intact, usually by day 3–5, make-up can be reapplied gently.

Hold off on retinol, AHA, BHA and high-strength vitamin C for 3–5 days after treatment. Stick to gentle hydrators and mineral SPF in the meantime, then reintroduce your actives slowly, one at a time, so the skin barrier stays comfortable.

You may notice a fresh glow within a week, but the main results — smoother texture, refined pores and firmer, tighter skin — build gradually over several weeks as collagen remodels. A course of around 3 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, is typical; Dr Azra will confirm the right plan for you and you can see current pricing on the Dubai price list or discuss firmness goals alongside skin tightening at your consultation.
