What is “glass skin”?

Glass skin describes skin so smooth, hydrated and even that it looks luminous and almost translucent — the signature of Korean skincare. It comes from deep hydration, refined pores and a healthy skin barrier, not makeup. At Dr Azra’s clinic we deliver it as a medical protocol — a Premium HydraFacial layered with glow-boosting skin boosters — not a one-off spa ritual.

Korean facial vs medical glass-skin facial

Medical glass-skin facial

Physician-designed protocol with clinical-grade devices and boosters, assessed for your skin and built to last.

Who is it for?

Suitable candidates
  • Anyone wanting a luminous, dewy, poreless finish
  • Dull, dehydrated or uneven skin
  • Pre-event or pre-shoot glow
  • Those wanting lasting glow, not a one-off
Postpone until review
  • Active, inflamed acne
  • Very reactive or barrier-compromised skin
  • Active skin infection at the site

Your specialist tailors the protocol — reactive skin starts gentler.

Glass skin on Gulf, oily and darker skin

This matters more than any single treatment name. Most of our patients are Fitzpatrick III to VI, and glass skin is very achievable on richer, oilier skin — but the route has to respect the skin type.

Deeper skin tones respond beautifully, yet they carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the dark marks that can appear after too-aggressive resurfacing. So the smoothing step is chosen conservatively and built across a course rather than forced in one strong session. Oily and combination skin, common in the Gulf climate, often reaches the glass finish faster through hydration and pore work than through heavy resurfacing, because the surface is already producing oil — the job is to refine and hydrate, not to strip. And in a city where the sun does not take a season off, daily SPF is not aftercare advice, it is part of the treatment. This is precisely why the plan is built after assessment, not sold off a menu.

How to prepare for your glass skin facial

A little preparation helps your skin get the most from the treatment.

In the week before your appointment, keep your routine gentle. Pause retinoids, strong exfoliating acids (AHAs and BHAs) and any at-home peels for three to five days, as these can leave the skin more reactive. Avoid deliberate sun exposure and sunbeds, and skip waxing or threading on the area for a few days beforehand. On the day, come with clean, product-free skin where possible and arrive well hydrated.

Let your specialist know about any medication, recent aesthetic treatments, allergies or a history of cold sores, so the protocol can be tailored to you. If you have an active breakout, an unhealed cold sore or a skin infection on the day, it is usually best to reschedule until it has settled. If you have recently had injectables such as anti-wrinkle treatment or filler, mention this too, as your specialist may adjust the timing.

What to expect during your appointment

A comfortable, walk-in, walk-out treatment — usually around 45 to 60 minutes.

Your facial begins with a double cleanse and a short skin assessment, followed by gentle exfoliation and the HydraFacial stage, which uses a vortex tip to lift away debris while infusing hydrating serums. Most people describe this as a cool, tingling massage rather than anything painful, and no injections into deeper tissue are involved.

If skin boosters or microneedling form part of your plan, a numbing cream is applied first for comfort. The session finishes with a soothing, hydrating layer and SPF to protect the fresh glow. Because there is little to no downtime, you can usually return to work or your plans straight afterwards — one reason many people book it before an event or a shoot. You are welcome to ask questions at any point, and the serums and pressure can be adjusted if anything feels too strong for your skin.

Glass skin results: what to expect and when

Glass skin builds in stages, and results vary from person to person.

Straight after your session, skin looks dewy, plump and more even, sometimes with a light flush that settles within an hour or two. Over the first day or two, hydration peaks and makeup tends to sit more smoothly. Because a single facial mainly hydrates and refreshes, that first glow typically lasts one to two weeks.

Lasting refinement — smoother texture, a more even tone and tighter-looking pores — develops with a planned course, as repeated hydration and boosters support the skin barrier over several weeks. Many people follow an initial series with a maintenance session roughly every four to six weeks to keep the finish. Your specialist advises the right number and spacing after assessing your skin. Drinking enough water, using a nourishing moisturiser and wearing daily SPF all help the glow last longer between visits.

Risks and side effects

A medical glass-skin facial is low-risk and well tolerated, but it is still a clinical treatment.

The most common effects are mild and short-lived: temporary redness, a warm or slightly tight feeling, and occasionally minor dryness or light flaking as the skin adjusts. These usually settle within a few hours to a day or two. If microneedling or boosters are part of the plan, small pinpoint marks or a little sensitivity for a day are possible.

More significant reactions are uncommon when the skin is properly assessed first, which is why very reactive, barrier-compromised or acne-active skin starts with a gentler plan. Contact the clinic promptly if you notice severe or increasing pain, spreading redness or warmth, blistering, pus or fever, or any swelling that worsens after 48 hours rather than improving, so your specialist can review you. Do tell us in advance if you have ever reacted badly to a facial, a peel or a specific skincare ingredient, so we can plan around it.

Aftercare & results

Most people see a glow after one session, with a course of 3–6 building lasting hydration and refinement. There is little to no downtime. For 24 hours avoid harsh actives, saunas and direct sun, and wear SPF. Your specialist sets the ideal cadence for a glow that lasts.

Why choose Dr Azra’s clinic

Your treatment is designed under the oversight of Dr Azra Vaziri — a DHA- and DOH-licensed aesthetic physician with more than 20 years of experience, practising aesthetic medicine since 2004 — and performed by Maryam Siadat — a DHA-licensed Beauty Therapist & Skin Specialist with over five years in advanced skincare. Medical judgement plus expert hands is what separates a clinical facial from a salon one: your skin is assessed and treated as part of a plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Korean glass skin facial?

A treatment aimed at the Korean ‘glass skin’ look — luminous, hydrated, poreless skin. We deliver it as a medical protocol combining a Premium HydraFacial with glow-boosting skin boosters, rather than a spa ritual.

How many sessions do I need for glass skin?

Most people see a glow after one session, with a course of 3–6 building lasting hydration and refinement. Your specialist sets the plan after assessing your skin.

Is a Korean glass skin facial the same as a HydraFacial?

A HydraFacial is one part of it. The glass-skin protocol layers the HydraFacial with skin boosters for a deeper, longer-lasting result.

Is it suitable for my skin type?

The protocol is tailored during assessment, so it suits most skin types and tones. Very reactive or acne-active skin may start with a gentler plan.

Is glass skin permanent, or how long does it last?

It is a maintained state, not a permanent change. A single session gives a temporary lift; a short course plus daily hydration and SPF holds the look, and most people keep it with periodic maintenance sessions rather than starting over each time.

Can I get glass skin on oily or darker skin?

Yes, and it is very achievable on Fitzpatrick III to VI skin, which describes most of our patients. Darker tones carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, so resurfacing is kept conservative and built over a course. Oily skin often reaches the look faster through hydration and pore work than through heavy resurfacing.

How much does it cost in Dubai?
