Biostimulator (Face) — Before & After Care

A collagen biostimulator works gradually, so how you care for the skin in the first weeks — especially the massage routine — genuinely shapes your result. Here is exactly what to do before and after treatment with Dr Azra Vaziri.

— Before Your Treatment

How to Prepare (Before Care)

✓ Do — the days before
  • Tell Dr Azra your full medication and supplement list, and any history of cold sores
  • Stay well hydrated — biostimulators such as poly-L-lactic acid work best in healthy, hydrated tissue
  • Arrive with clean, make-up-free skin on the day of treatment
  • Eat a light meal beforehand so you feel comfortable during the session
  • Plan around events — results build over 6–12 weeks, so allow time before a big occasion
✗ Avoid before
  • Blood thinners & anti-inflammatories (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for ~24 hours — only pause prescribed medication with your doctor’s approval
  • Alcohol for 24 hours before to reduce bruising and swelling
  • Booking within ~2 weeks of dental work, facials or other injectables
  • Treatment if you have an active skin infection, cold sore or acute breakout in the area

After Your Treatment — Day by Day

24h

First 24 hours

Expect mild swelling, tenderness and possibly small bruises at the injection points — this is normal and settles quickly. Apply a cool (not ice-cold) compress gently if needed, and take paracetamol rather than ibuprofen. Skip make-up for the day.

1–5

Days 1–5 — the massage window

For Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid), massage the treated area exactly as Dr Azra instructs — the classic guide is roughly 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This distributes the product evenly and helps avoid lumps. Avoid strenuous exercise, sauna, steam and heat for the first 24–48 hours.

2–6

Weeks 2–6

Any residual puffiness fades and the face looks normal again — but do not expect the final change yet. Avoid facials, peels and other treatments for about 2 weeks. Wear daily SPF and let the collagen process work quietly in the background.

6+

Weeks 6–12 and beyond

New collagen forms gradually, so skin looks firmer, fuller and more lifted over 6–12 weeks. Most people need a course of 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Dr Azra reviews progress and plans any further sessions at follow-up.

— Do & Don’t

Aftercare Do’s & Don’ts

✓ Do
  • Follow your massage schedule precisely for Sculptra (the 5–5–5 rule) — it is the single most important aftercare step
  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50 every day to protect the developing collagen
  • Keep the skin hydrated and cleanse gently with lukewarm water
  • Take paracetamol if you need pain relief, and use arnica for bruising
  • Drink plenty of water and eat well to support collagen formation
  • Be patient — the result is meant to appear slowly and naturally
✗ Don’t
  • Do strenuous exercise, sauna, steam room or hot yoga for 24–48 hours
  • Have facials, peels, microneedling or laser for about 2 weeks
  • Take anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, aspirin) or alcohol for the first 24 hours
  • Press firmly, rub aggressively or apply heat beyond your prescribed massage
  • Expose the area to strong, direct sun or tanning beds
  • Judge your result too early — biostimulators reveal themselves over weeks, not days

When to contact the clinic. Mild swelling, tenderness and small bruises are expected and settle within days. Contact Dr Azra promptly if you notice severe or increasing pain, a firm lump or nodule that does not soften with massage, spreading redness, warmth, pus or fever, skin discolouration that turns white or dusky, or any sudden visual change — WhatsApp +971 50 180 1793.

Biostimulator (Face) Aftercare FAQ

Unlike a filler, a biostimulator works gradually. Any early plumping is just water and settles within days — the real result comes from new collagen and builds over 6–12 weeks. Most people need a course of 2–3 sessions. You can read more about how it works on the biostimulator (face) page.

For Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid), yes — massage is essential. The usual guide is about 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days, using the technique Dr Azra shows you. This evenly distributes the product and reduces the chance of small lumps. For calcium hydroxylapatite biostimulators such as Radiesse, routine self-massage is usually not required — always follow your specific instructions.

Avoid strenuous exercise, sauna, steam rooms and heat for the first 24–48 hours. Make-up can usually be applied the day after treatment, once any pinpoint marks have closed — apply it gently rather than rubbing the area.

Yes. Mild swelling, tenderness and small bruises at the injection points are common and settle within a few days. A little firmness in the first days is also normal and softens with your massage routine. Contact the clinic if you feel a persistent hard nodule or any of the warning signs above.

Most people have 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with results that can last up to around two years as the stimulated collagen matures. Dr Azra confirms your plan at consultation — you can review options and pricing on the biostimulator cost page or the full price list.
