What is an Aptos thread lift?

Aptos is a brand of absorbable barbed (COG) threads — fine surgical sutures with tiny bidirectional barbs along their length. Where a smooth thread simply sits in the skin and stimulates collagen, a barbed Aptos thread grips the soft tissue: as it is drawn into position, the barbs anchor and reposition the tissue upward. That is the difference between stimulation and an actual lift.

Aptos threads are made from an absorbable caprolactone and L-lactide copolymer, so they dissolve gradually over months while the collagen they trigger continues to hold the result. In practice you get two effects from one treatment: an immediate mechanical lift on the day, and a slower collagen-building effect that maintains it. Because the material lasts longer than standard PDO, the lift typically holds for 18–24 months.

At our clinic Aptos is a physician-delivered treatment — the threads are placed by Dr Azra Vaziri, not by a therapist — because the lift depends entirely on the vector, depth and anchoring of each thread.

Aptos (barbed/COG) vs smooth PDO threads

Both are thread treatments, and this clinic offers both. They do fundamentally different jobs — choosing between them is the point of your consultation.

Aptos barbed / COG threads

For lift and repositioning

Barbs anchor into the tissue and physically move it — the right tool for early jowls, a softening jawline, midface descent and neck laxity. Immediate visible lift on the day, holding 18–24 months. From AED 4,000 (standard AED 6,000).

Smooth PDO threads

For stimulation, not lifting

Fine smooth (mono) threads that stimulate collagen and subtly firm and refine skin quality — but they do not lift. A more affordable, gentler option for skin-quality change. This is covered on our main PDO thread lift page, which is the place to start if you are researching threads in general.

What Aptos threads treat

Early jowls

Lower face

The most common reason people ask about a thread lift — softening along the jawline where the face has started to descend.

Jawline definition

Jawline

Re-drawing a cleaner jaw contour when the line has blurred, without surgery or a long recovery.

Midface and cheeks

Midface

Repositioning cheek tissue that has dropped, restoring some of the upward support that fillers alone cannot always give.

Neck laxity

Neck

Mild neck and under-chin laxity — often combined with the lower face for a balanced result. See our thread lift options.

Brow position

Brow

A subtle lift to a heavy or descending brow, opening the eye area when appropriate.

Nasolabial softening

Folds

Reducing the pull that drives deeper nasolabial folds, frequently alongside filler rather than instead of it.

Your Aptos treatment, step by step

A thread lift is a minor procedure, not a facial. The planning matters as much as the placement.

1

Assessment

Dr Azra assesses your degree of laxity, skin quality and facial anatomy, and confirms whether threads — or a filler, energy device or surgery — is the honest answer.

2

Planning & anaesthesia

Lift vectors are marked on your face and local anaesthetic is used so the placement is comfortable.

3

Thread placement

Aptos threads are introduced through tiny entry points and drawn into position; the barbs anchor and the tissue is lifted along the planned vector.

4

Review & aftercare

The result is checked for symmetry, aftercare is explained, and a review is scheduled. You leave with a visible lift the same day.

Is an Aptos thread lift right for you?

Threads have a real but specific window. Being honest about that window is how you avoid disappointment — and it is why this is a physician decision.

Usually a good fit
  • Mild to moderate sagging — early jowls, a softening jawline, dropped midface
  • Reasonable skin quality with some remaining elasticity
  • You want a visible lift without surgery or general anaesthetic
  • You accept a result that lasts 18–24 months rather than permanently
  • Often people in their late 30s to 50s
Threads are not the answer
  • Heavy, advanced sagging with significant excess skin — that is a facelift conversation
  • Very thin or very lax skin with little to anchor to
  • Active infection in the area, or a tendency to keloid scarring
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Expecting a permanent, surgical-grade change

A good clinic will tell you when threads will underdeliver — and what would actually work instead.

Aptos thread lift price in Dubai

Threads are priced by how much lifting is needed — how many threads, and how many areas. Your exact plan is confirmed at consultation.

Treatment From (AED) Typical range Longevity
Aptos barbed (COG) lift 4,000 (standard 6,000) 4,000–10,000 18–24 months
Aptos + PDO combination 10,000 10,000–15,000 18–24 months
Smooth PDO threads (stimulation) 1,200 (standard 1,500) ~12 months

The range reflects the number of threads and areas treated. Many patients combine a barbed lift with smooth PDO threads for skin quality — see the full thread lift cost guide for how the pricing is built up.

Recovery and results

You see a lift on the day. The first two weeks are about protecting the anchoring while collagen begins to form around the threads.

Most people have some swelling, mild bruising and a feeling of tightness or slight puckering for a few days — usually manageable enough to return to normal life quickly, which is much of the appeal versus surgery. For roughly two weeks we ask you to sleep on your back, avoid opening the mouth very wide, skip dental work, facials, saunas and vigorous exercise, and be gentle with the face so the barbs settle undisturbed.

The immediate lift softens slightly as initial swelling resolves, then the collagen-building effect takes over and maintains the result. Expect the lift to hold around 18–24 months, after which it can be repeated. Threads also combine well with filler for volume and Botox for the upper face — a plan your consultation will map out.

Physician-placed, not delegated

This is the part that separates a genuine thread lift from a treatment sold on price alone.

Every Aptos thread lift at our clinic is planned and placed by Dr Azra Vaziri, a DHA- and DOH-licensed aesthetic physician with more than twenty years of experience. A thread lift is only as good as its vectors: the same threads placed at the wrong angle or depth give a flat, short-lived or uneven result, and correcting an over-tightened or dimpled lift is far harder than planning it well the first time. That judgement is not something to delegate, which is why threads sit on our doctor menu rather than the facialist one.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Aptos thread lift?

Aptos is a brand of absorbable barbed (COG) threads. Unlike smooth threads that only stimulate collagen, Aptos threads have tiny barbs that anchor into the soft tissue and physically reposition it upward, giving an immediate lift as well as gradual collagen stimulation.

What is the difference between Aptos and PDO threads?

PDO smooth threads stimulate collagen and refine skin quality but do not lift. Aptos barbed (COG) threads grip and reposition sagging tissue for an actual lift, and their material lasts longer — typically 18–24 months versus around 12 for standard PDO. Many patients combine both.

How long does an Aptos thread lift last?

Around 18–24 months for most people. The threads themselves absorb over months, but the collagen they stimulate continues to support the result after they are gone. It can be repeated when the lift softens.

How much is an Aptos thread lift in Dubai?

Aptos barbed lifts start from AED 4,000 and typically range AED 4,000–10,000 depending on how many threads and areas are treated. An Aptos-plus-PDO combination is around AED 10,000–15,000. Smooth PDO threads for skin quality start from AED 1,200 (standard AED 1,500). Your exact plan is confirmed at consultation.

Is there much downtime?

Minimal compared with surgery. Expect some swelling, mild bruising and a feeling of tightness for a few days. For about two weeks you should sleep on your back, avoid opening the mouth wide, and skip dental work, facials, saunas and vigorous exercise so the threads settle.

Is a thread lift a replacement for a facelift?

No. Threads are for mild to moderate sagging and give a subtle, temporary lift. Heavy, advanced sagging with excess skin needs surgery for a real result. Part of an honest consultation is telling you which category you are in rather than overselling threads.

Which areas can Aptos threads treat?

Most commonly early jowls, the jawline, the midface and cheeks, and mild neck laxity, with the brow and nasolabial area in selected cases. The right vectors depend on your anatomy and are planned at your consultation.

Who performs the Aptos thread lift?

It is planned and placed by Dr Azra Vaziri, a DHA- and DOH-licensed aesthetic physician with more than twenty years of experience. A thread lift depends entirely on precise placement, so it is a physician-delivered treatment, not delegated to a therapist.
