What Is a Lip Flip, Exactly?
A lip flip uses just 4–6 units of Botox placed into the muscle along the upper lip (the orbicularis oris). Relaxing this muscle lets the upper lip gently roll, or “flip”, outward so that more of the pink lip shows — especially when you smile. There is no added volume and no gel; the effect is your own lip simply becoming more visible. It is the most subtle lip enhancement available, takes a couple of minutes, and is popular with patients who feel their top lip “disappears” when they smile.
What Does Lip Filler Do?
Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid gel injected into the lip to genuinely change its size and shape — adding volume, defining the border, balancing asymmetry and hydrating the lip. Because it is HA, it is reversible with hyaluronidase if you ever want it dissolved. Different techniques create different looks, from a soft natural enhancement to a more defined Russian lip. Can You Combine a Lip Flip and Lip Filler?
Yes — and many patients do. The two work on different problems: filler builds the lip, while the flip improves how much of it you see when you smile. Used together, they can give a fuller lip that also reads as a natural, balanced pout without overfilling.
