HArmonyCa Aftercare — Before and After Your Treatment

Everything to do in the week around a HArmonyCa appointment, day by day — and the small number of things that are worth ringing the clinic about. Written by Dr Azra Vaziri for her own patients.

Swelling settles in about a week
No routine massage — unlike Sculptra
Normal activity the same day
Review at four weeks, included

The short version

First 48 hours: stay upright, keep the area cool, nothing hot, no gym, no pressure on the treated area, no sleeping face-down.

First week: no sauna, steam, hammam or hot yoga; no facials, no massage, no dental work that can wait.

Then: live normally, and come back at four weeks so the settled result can be assessed and photographed.

Quick answer

HArmonyCa aftercare — the first week. Expect swelling and tenderness for two to three days; injection-site redness usually settles within 24–48 hours and swelling within about a week. Stay upright for the first night, keep the area cool, and avoid gym, sauna, steam and facials for seven days. Do not massage the area unless Dr Azra has specifically told you to. You will be seen again at four weeks.

How to Prepare

None of this is fussy. It exists because bruising is the single most common reason a patient is unhappy in the first week, and most of it is avoidable.

⎯ Recovery

After Your Treatment — Day by Day

The pattern below is what the large majority of patients experience. It is also why judging your result in the first few days is pointless — you are looking at swelling, not at HArmonyCa.

No routine massage. This is where HArmonyCa aftercare differs from Sculptra aftercare, where daily massage is part of the protocol. With a hybrid HA/CaHA product, the area is moulded by the doctor at the time of injection and then left alone. Do not massage unless Dr Azra has told you to for a specific reason.

HArmonyCa Aftercare Timeline at a Glance

Timeframe What is normal What to avoid
First 24–48 h Swelling, tenderness, possible bruising Gym, heat, alcohol, pressure on the area, sleeping face-down
Days 3–7 Swelling subsiding; shape becoming readable Sauna, steam, hammam, hot yoga, facials, non-urgent dental work
Weeks 2–4 Close to the settled lift; area may feel firm Massaging or pressing the area to ‘fix’ it
Weeks 4–12 Progressive firming as collagen builds Nothing — live normally
Month 12 Laxity improvement still measurable in clinical series Leaving it too long before reassessment

Do’s & Don’ts

If you remember nothing else from this page, remember the two columns opposite.

⎯ Safety

When to Call the Clinic

Almost nothing on this list will happen to you. It is here because the one situation that matters is time-critical, and a patient who knows what to look for is safer than one who waits until Monday.

Call the clinic the same day if you have:

• Pain that is getting worse rather than better after the first 48 hours
• Skin that looks blanched, white, mottled or dusky over or near the treated area
• Any change in your vision
• Spreading redness, heat or a fever
• A lump that is growing, hard and tender rather than settling

Firm areas that are mild, painless and settling are common in the first weeks and usually resolve on their own. It is the combination of worsening, spreading or discolouring that matters. Clinic contact details.

HArmonyCa Aftercare FAQ

Most patients go back to normal the same day. Swelling and tenderness are usual for two to three days, injection-site redness typically settles within 24 to 48 hours, and swelling within about a week. Bruises, if you get them, can take up to ten days.

Leave the gym, running and anything strenuous for 48 hours. Walking is fine straight away. Hot yoga, sauna and steam wait a full week — heat and raised blood flow are what make swelling worse.

No, not routinely. This is the main way HArmonyCa aftercare differs from Sculptra, where massage is part of the protocol. Dr Azra moulds the area at the time of injection; after that it should be left alone unless she has asked you specifically to do otherwise.

Wash gently with a mild cleanser from the same evening. Leave make-up off the treated area for the first 24 hours, then apply it gently. Avoid vigorous cleansing brushes and anything that drags the skin for a few days.

Yes, all three are common and all three settle. The area often feels firmer than it looks for the first couple of weeks. What is not expected is pain that worsens after 48 hours, skin that looks blanched or mottled, or a lump that grows — those are the reasons to call.

You see the lift on the day, but that is the hyaluronic acid working and it is mixed in with swelling. The honest answer is two to three months, once the collagen response has built. That is why the review is set at four weeks and the result is photographed rather than remembered.

Flying is fine, though a long flight in the first 48 hours can make swelling look worse for a day. If you can, leave two or three days between treatment and a long-haul flight.

Leave two weeks before any facial, chemical peel, microneedling or energy-based device over the treated area, and tell whoever is treating you that you have had HArmonyCa.

Postpone non-urgent dental work for two weeks — the jaw is stretched and the area is manipulated, which is best avoided while things settle. Urgent dental treatment should not be delayed; just tell your dentist what you have had.

Note it and bring it to the four-week review rather than pressing or massaging it. Most apparent unevenness in the first weeks is swelling rather than product. If something genuinely needs adjusting, the hyaluronic acid component can be dissolved — the calcium component cannot, which is precisely why the first session is kept conservative.
